the Bridge

The brief:

To replace the existing intranet with a fully CMS to support both onboard and shore base staff. Review and advise on usability issues and address how all achieved business documents stored on the intranet with no structured asset management application could be documented and catalogued.

The design should support the multiple brands associated with Carnival UK and build an internal brand that could be recognised in its own right.

An important USP of the new site will be to reduce the amount of time the sales team spend looking for relevant ship information.

Our solution:

Before any technical wireframes or documentation were created our accessibility and usability analysts worked with each department to understand how and what they required the site to do for them to make their working process easier. This research was then transferred into designs and wireframes and presented back for accessibility testing with an internal Carnival UK team.

Working closely with the Carnival UK IT department, the .Net solution incorporated multiple services developed and supplied by the client. These include organisational charts populating Flash, phonebooks and even worldwide ship location.

The results:

An intuitive and simplified site, with a controlled three tier navigation structure. At any point within the site the user can access the top pages, phonebook, organisation cart etc. The home page now offers updated industry information and important internal business and personal information on the fly without the need to delve into multiple pages.

And above all the site offers a community for all shore and sea based employees.
